Introduction

If you want to get away from the hustle & bustle of Hong Kong, or even Shenzhen, Zhongshan is the place to be. It is much more quiet, green and laid-back than other coastal areas of China.

The club runs a shuttle bus service at Zhongshan Terminal club but it's limited at certain hours only, you are advised to call and check with the club first.

If you take a taxi, the ride will take about 20" and cost around 45 RMB.

A longer taxi ride (45") will be required from JiuZhou costing 140 RMB by meter or 120 if you negotiate.

Club Facilities & Service

In a word: excellent. The Clubhouse is extremely well-equipped and, unlike many, it is also tastefully decorated.

A new hotel is completed which is connected to the clubhouse and no doubt graded 5 stars. Again, it is well decorated and provide services like coffee cafe, red wine room, cigar room, sauna massage, karoake nightclub, fitness centre, outdoor swimming pool. The spacious and trendy rooms are comfortable and nice looking.

The driving range is also worth a mention as it is one of the nicest one I have seen with proper greens and bunkers.

Fairway & Green Maintenance

Both were exemplary, greens & fairways are meticulously maintained with excellent landscaping.

This is a soft spike only course.

Course Design

A Course : The A Course is built upon rolling hills and offers breathtaking views. The fairways are greatly influenced by the hilly terrain and some of them have massive swings to left or right and even up and down. The front nine definitely suits players who draw the ball as the majority of holes are dogleg lefts. There are quite a few elevated tees and while the fairways are relatively generous, getting the ball on the correct side of them gives you a huge advantage for your second shot.

Many of the greens are very big and feature multiple tiers that can be extremely difficult to judge.

The front nine is an extremely beautiful stretch of holes and because of the number of doglegs it is also the more difficult.

B Course : The B course is completely different style with A course while it appears flatter with wider fairways but longer in length. Long hitters definitely earn some advantage as most Par 4 exceeds 400 yards. Bunkers play a large factor , they are perfectly positioned to penalize off track shots. And not difficult to see deep and powder like greenside bunkers which mean your ball will be easily buried, could be very nasty though. Greens are average in size and generally flat.

Overall, this is one beautiful place. It's without doubt one of the best courses in the Pearl River Delta (maybe even in China) and combined with the facilities offered it makes an ideal destination for a couple of days or more.

Caddie's Service

If you're playing this place for the first time it's worth asking the caddie master for a really good caddie - the severity of the doglegs could leave you puzzled on the tee. I was lucky on this occasion as mine could speak comparatively good English. Not only did she say the usual "Good shot", "Bunker", etc, she even managed "Hmm, a bit too much club there" and "Waah, how come you didn't slice that time?"

007's Rating

I thoroughly enjoyed my round and just love the design and the surrounding of the course. It's beautiful and quiet - it's also right next to Chang Jiang Reservoir which happens to be one of best scenic spots in Zongshan. The developer must have spent a lot of time and effort in securing this beautiful piece of land.

Be aware though that you have to pay a large deposit upon checking in - make sure that you bring ample cash or that your credit card hasn't been maxed out!
