Introduction

This is the first public golf club in Hong Kong and is located on a small island known as Kau Sai Chau, just 20" minutes ferry away from the town of Sai Kung pier, bus and minibus are readily available.

Club Facilities & Service
This is the first (I hope it's not the last) public golf course in Hong Kong opened in 1996 so the facilities are still fairly new and well equipped and the service is also good.¡@

The surrounding view from the club and from the course is lovely looking over the Sai Kung country park and town.

Fairway & Green Maintenance
Despite the course's heavy traffic (it's almost full every day of the week) but both fairways and greens are maintained to a surprisingly good standard,

Although, I don't 'normally' go into the bunkers but on those rare occasions, I always found the sand textures are on the 'firm' side and making exit out of them a little more complicated, I hope  they can improve on.

Metal spike allowed.

Caddy's Service & knowledge

I rarely use caddies in Hong Kong mainly due to its higher costs and commonly lack of reasonable course knowledge. I had only used caddies twice in Kau Sai Chau and was not impressed with their performance*.

KSC finally decided to grade caddies into 3 groups according to their knowledge of the course and rules of the game and this should improve the overall quality.

Course Design

Both North and South course are built along the beautiful and scenic shoreline of a small island,  just off the town of Sai Kung, despite being an offshore island, it's fairly well protected by the surrounding mountains and not as exposed as the Clearwater Bay Golf Club but could still subject to windy conditions, perhaps more so to the easterly wind and could be a big influence of play.

The South course's front 9 is easier due to its shorter distance and generous fairways but the back can be tricky and even difficult (depending on the location of tees).

Overall, the South is still quite a good course for beginners and high handicappers to practice and learn the tricks of the trade while longer hitters and low handicappers may find the front 9 of the South lack of good challenges........Play Video

007's Rating

First of all, I take my hat off to the Jockey Club for their management and the superb maintenance of the course and its lower green fees for local players, making the game of golf more affordable (even though the beverages they serve in those mobile carts are comparatively high and sometimes far and few between golf holes). The coins & Mondex card only drink vending machines can also be very frustrating if you don't carry enough coins and the card.

Pace of play is also a big problem during weekends.....but I suppose this is not unique here, and it's almost impossible to get through the phone to make reservation on weekends.
