After my first round at the nice Long Thanh Golf Club, the 2nd round of my itinerary is this Vietnam Golf & Country club, located only 20 kms which is the closest course to the city centre. The club has 2 courses, the East course is designed by six majors winner Lee Trevino while the West course is designed a lesser known Taiwanese designer Mr. Chen King Shih, I have never played a Lee Trevino course, so obviously my choice was the East course. |

East
course is built
on a fairly flat terrain. The course is tree lined and the fairways feature very subtle slopes, however,
most of the fairways are fairly generous in the way of water hazards. From the
blue, it only measures 6,435 yards
scorecard,with the main defence being the strategically placed bunkers and small & undulating greens. I was expecting some interesting or unusual design ideas from Mr. L ee Trevino, but the holes are generally quite standard – nothing too unusual - except the #11
a par 5 which is a lot more different than the rest. Interestingly, when I was flying into Ho Chi Ming city I was able to take a birdeye view snapshot of the course from the plane. |

 When
I was at the course, they just completed setting up both of the courses for the Vietnam
Open so the course was recovering. I was told by the caddie
that in 1 to 2 weeks the course would be in top shape.

This is one of the older club in Vietnam and a nice one at that, although the club has no fancy decoration but everything was straight forward, the restaurant, proshop, locker 1 & 2 and staff were also very hospitable. I had a quick look at the West course just before I left, it appears the course is a bit more tighter & possibly more changeling, it is also the Vietnam Open championship venue. Eagle 9/07 |
