Following the massive success of the Shenzhen/Dongguan Mission Hills project, the group has built another giant golf/resort development in Haikou, as of May 2011, they have already completed 10 golf courses, the development is very conveniently located about 15 minutes from the airport & about 20 to 30 minutes from the city centre.

Unlike Shenzhen & Dongguan which are members' club, Mission Hills Haikou's main focus is for tourists & conference service.

The massive club house and hotel are connected through a walkway, similar to the Dounguan, both of them are elegantly decorated with lots of facilities from indoor swimming pool, different types of restaurants (CHinese, Japanese's & western), spa, coffee shop, gym, pro shop...you name it

The Blackstone is the signature course to showcase Mission Hills at Haikou and just held the Star Trophy Tournament in Oct 2010, all the golf courses are built on a bed of ancient lava rock & you can clearly see that the architect took full advantage of the lava rock & incorporate it into a prominent part of the design. I have been told that the Blackstone is the hardest of the 10 but when I played the course, I found most fairways are fairly generous & little to no rough area, the hard bits are the approaches which are tighter and with big bunkers guarding the fairways to catch your wayward shots, in particular the signature 6th. And from the blue tee, it measures 6,722 yards - long side from for weekend warriors .

Many of the caddies are either trained or brought over from Shenzhen base, however, my caddie was quite new and did not know the course too well but she won my heart being very attentive & hard working.

Mission Hills Haikou has no doubt become the landmark for Hainan & has set a new & very high standard for all golf course development to follow, the design & maintenance of the NO.1 was excellent, the hotel next to the club house was very nice too, however, some of the staff are inexperience & need more training as I spent a lot of time waiting for the reception to check in & out.

This is a massive development with lots & lots of nice resort facilities. I really admire the owners' vision & courage to invest so much money into an island depending so much on tourist industry, I think it is worth our time & few thousands just to give it a try, right? Ace 05/ 2011
