Club & service

The Duval Course is one of the 5 courses on the Dongguan side of Mission Hills. The new clubhouse here is massive, with hugely impressive facilities: spa, conference hall, restaurants. It's a bit reminiscent of Pacifc Place in Admiralty, such is the number of retail outlets! Mission Hills service generally is excellent - and it's no different here.

Course design

Because of the terrain on this side of the Mission Hills complex (mountainous woodland), the design is very similar to the Leadbetter and Annika layouts, its neighbouring courses. Most of the fairways are built on the same undualting terrain and the bunkers are similar in style - those guys at Schmidt & Curley - the architects who designed all the courses here (apart from the Norman Course) - really like those flashed traps! It might just be me, but perhaps Duval's contribution to the design is based on how he likes to play the game - after all, he likes to play a fade, and it's interesting how many holes here dogleg from left to right

Course condition

Not bad, most were in decent shape when I was playing. They have had a few problems with a couple of greens, and these have recently changed locations because of drainage issues.

Caddie

Good & very attentive.

007 Rating

From the blue tee is only 6,088 yards....a little bit on the short side. Most fairways are quite generous and forgiving. Unless you're really hopelessly off line (like me!) you should be able to finish a round the round without losing too many balls. With the exception of hole #18, which is pretty tough, the rest are quite straight forward and fun to play. 2/07
