Introduction

For some strange reason, I miss going to Phuket once in a while, since my last visit was at 06, it is time for me to check it out and play a couple of rounds, and the Red Mountain which opened in 2007 is developed by the Loch Palm Golf Club and is right next door to it, from Patong, it takes around 20-25 minutes drive.

Club facilities & service

Beautiful clubhouse, it is not big but the design is nice & cool, however, the service was slow, took me 10 minutes to order a coffee, waited 10 minutes for it and took another 10 minutes to get the bill! I know I am on holiday & but 30 minutes for a coffee is too much. Next time, ask for a coffee & the bill at the same time, and you will save loads of time : )

Course design

The course is built on an old tin mine & in the middle of a lush tropical rain forest, so there is no shortage of cliffs and gullies and beautiful vegetation, elevation changes on some of the holes are high and with a nice view overlooking the surrounding villages, ....this is one great looking golf course but really tough with demanding accuracy to land on those tight spots, club selection is also important as you need to hit the right distances, if you want to do well, check out the my photos on the hole by hole section or ask for a yardage book from the caddie.

As said, this is a good looking golf course, I like the #8, #14 & the#17 par 3 is the signature hole.

Maintenance of fairways & greens

Seashore Paspalum fairways & greens and they were in superb shape!

Caddie service & knowledge of the course

My caddie was OK....can't say that with my playing partner's caddie...which was a bit slow

My rating

The clubhouse is nice & clean, the golf course is stunning but very difficult, fairways are tight, lots of hazards, many blind holes, a low handicapper may find it challenging, mid handicapper will struggle, high handicapper wish he was at a more forgiving course. Eagle 2010

Difficulties : (Blue Tee) : (Almost 5 chilies if it was not for the shorter distance off the blue tee)
