Golf 007 Amateur Tour Championship 2008

The 1st round of the Golf 007 Amateur Championship Tour 2008 kicked off at Nansha Golf Club’s Valley Course on the 27th January, with the event being sponsored by TaylorMade, who generously donated a CGB Drivers, Rossa Putters, Burner Fairway Woods and TP Wedges as prizes.

All 67 players had to endure extremely cold and wet conditions during the round with the mercury barely rising above 9 degrees Celcius. Nansha’s extremely tricky, yet beautifully smooth, greens proved to another cause for difficulty, with many players coming unglued on the treacherously contoured putting surfaces.

Among the many new faces joining the Tour this year is Jonathan Linstow, a scratch handicapper, who eased to the gross title after a highly impressive round of 74. Ivan Leung, who ended the 2007 season in second place, has predicted a long and tough fight this year and welcomed the increase in the number of low handicappers joining the Tour.

The winner of the net division was Simon Humphries, another newcomer, who fired an excellent 66.

In the ladies’ division, Cathy Chung scooped gross honours with a battling 82, while Elke Ng’s round of 69 was good enough to win the net division on countback.

The men’s longest drive prize was awarded to Enoki Satoshi, while Vivian Kar’s hefty hit won her the ladies’ long drive competition. Nearest the pin prizes went to Lai Hou Shun and Cynthia Leung.
