Golf 007 Amateur Championship Tour 2008 Round Three
Third Round: 13th March 2008 at Tycoon Golf Club, B/C Course, Shenzhen.
This weekday match drew fewer players than normal for a Golf 007 Tour event, but still produced a tightly fought and competitive encounter.
In the Ladies’ Gross Division, Ms Huang Yue-ming took home the silverware after firing a highly competent round of 83. Ms Huang was clearly in good form as she also won the nearest the pin award.
The Ladies’ Net Division winner was Ms Vivian Kar, who carded a tidy 71 and showed her prowess with the longest club in the bag by winning the long drive contest.
Things were exceptionally close in the Men’s Gross Division, with Graeme Smith, Chan Ho-lam and John Lau all finishing their rounds with a score of 82. In such situations, countback is used to determine the winner and in this case, it was Chan Ho-lam who emerged victorious. Smith had to console himself with jumping into first place in the Order of Merit standings, while Lau was awarded the Men’s Net prize thanks to his solid play.
David “Black Bear” Largent, the 2007 Gross Champion, didn’t perform as well as many expected, finishing with an 86 to finish in fourth place.
Longest drive and nearest the pin honours went to M P Chan.
John Lau on top of the Net Division, David Wan with in second and Simon Humphries in third.
The next round will be the first of this season’s Major Championships and will be played on the 19th April, with Shenzhen Airport Golf Course provisionally selected as the venue.
