Golf 007 Amateur Championship Tour 2008 Round Four
The fourth round of the Golf 007 tournament proved to be an exceptionally gruelling day for all the players, with heavy rain and strong gusts (Typhoon No. 3 signal was hoisted at the time) causing havoc at Shenzhen Huanggang Airport Golf Club. 40 players braved the conditions and most even managed to complete the round—which was no small achievement.
As expected, the scoring was seriously affected by the adverse weather, but it didn’t dampen the spirits of those who played, with some even joking about the similarity of playing in the same conditions as the British Open, as Shenzhen Airport Golf Club is also a links-style course.
The Ladies’ Gross division winner was Ms Joyce Yip who carded a score of 101. The Net division title went to Ms Cynthia Lee who returned an 83. Ms Manjit Yau picked up Nearest-the-Pin honours
As ever, the Men’s Gross division was an extremely closely fought encounter with Law Chi-ming and Ivan Leung finishing at the head of affairs with a pair of 86s. It was Law who took home the silverware on countback. Law’s victory also moved him from seventh to second place on the Order of Merit.
With admirable net score of 70, Rickard Heiss won that particular division and moved to number three in the net rankings. Matthew Cheng, a regular Golf 007 Tour competitor, won the longest drive contest with a solid rain-cheating effort, while Randall King hit it closer than anyone else in the Men’s Nearest-the-Pin competition.
