Golf 007 Amateur Championship Tour 2008 Round Five
The latest Golf 007 Championship Tour event, which took place on 6 June, was played at the infamous Century Seaview Golf Club, the first time the clifftop course had hosted one of our tournaments. While the majority of the sixty-three players were expecting rain and damp conditions, the awful recent weather relented and the round was played out in sunshine. Not that that helped the scoring however. Known to local golfers as the ‘Devil Course,’ Century Seaview lived up to its tough reputation, with even the Tour’s most consistent players struggling on the layout’s narrow fairways and extremely undulating greens.
In the Nett Division, Ken Yen coped admirably by shooting a winning 74 which moves him up to fifth place in the overall Order of Merit ranking. Simon Humphries and Bruce Chan finished in a tie for second, two shots further back. David Wan currently leads the Nett Division Order of Merit standings, with John Lau in second and Humphries in third place.
In the Gross Division, Oscar Ho was the only player to break 90 (it’s that kind of course!), his 88 proving good enough to claim first place. Ivan Leung maintained his lead at the top of the Gross Order of Merit rankings, and despite not being in top form this time around, unleashed a cracking drive of 290 yards at the uphill par-5 10th to claim the Long Drive award. M.P. Chan won the Nearest-the-Pin honours.
Mandy Chan was the winner in the Ladies’ Nett Division after firing a 77. Tang Wai Yi’s score of 99 was good enough to claim the Gross category, while Ms Tang also won the Long Drive contest. The Nearest-the-Pin award went to Ms Cynthia Lee.
